School's out for summer, School's out forever... No, wait it isn't.
So this whole still in school thing along with the other messy happenings have left me wondering if anything in 2006 will make me really happy. I can honestly say that I think it will turn up but that I really need to train myself to be less suspicious of everyone's ulterior motives.
Hell, some of my friends don't even know what an ulterior motive is so how could they have one... Okay that's probably not true but it seems reassuring to say something like that true or not.
Today I start a class called Professional Responsibility. I'm pretty sure that this class is just a way for ABA law schools to say "It's not our fault they became corrupt... We showed them the right way." But I guess we'll see. Thus far nearly all I've learned, at least in my opinion, is how to skirt the law. I definately felt that way in the fall although slightly less with this semester thanks to Property which seemed, shockingly, to want to follow what was right. Perhaps I am imagining these things. I somehow doubt it.
My family has also begun to take the liberty of questioning me on at least a weekly basis about whether I intend to actually get my J.D. or whether this is all just some ruse to avoid joining the working world. Maybe it is but that wasn't ever something I was consciously aware of myself doing.
On another somewhat related note: If I've been not returning calls, voicemails, emails, text messages, IMs or what have you, please understand that I was in sort of a funk and rather than spread that funk to others I chose to stay away from people I feared the infection would pass to. Unfortunately, I was not able to use this excuse to avoid work. Maybe next time. On the plus side, I do believe the fog has lifted and I am beginning to see things more clearly. And if I can't actually do that yet I'm going to convince myself that I can and then do it anyway.
It's like that t-shirt Immaculata sent me when I got in... The will to do, the soul to dare, the power to succeed. All I have to do is get those three down and I can have a significantly more satisfactory life... (I'll have my fingers crossed.)
